What do you do at Shearwater Health?
I am the Workers’ Comp Practice Leader at Shearwater. In this role I support our clinical operations in providing our clients with exceptional service based on industry best practices. I also work with our sales team during client discussions to explain our capabilities and assist with program design.
What makes you passionate about your work at Shearwater Health?
I love working with our clinical teams to share the knowledge and experience that I have gained over many years of working in this industry. It is a great feeling to know that I serve as a mentor to our staff.
What has been your favorite memory while working at Shearwater Health?
My visit to our offices in Manila and Cebu. It was wonderful to meet all the people I have been working with and awesome to see their desire to be the very best nurses and in some small way be a part of their journey along their career path.
Marcia has been in Workers’ Compensation medical management for over 20 years starting as a telephonic case manager at Intracorp & then Sedgwick. She served many roles in her tenure at Sedgwick including case management supervisor, clinical trainer/auditor and clinical ops manager over 300+ nurses. While at Sedgwick she led the clinical design team for their in-house case management/UR software solution (One Team) and was instrumental in achieving Sedgwick’s 1st URAC accreditations for CM & WCUM. She then moved to MediCall in 2007 (acquired by Cognizant in 2012), a clinical outsourcing company, where she was responsible for development, implementation and ongoing account management of multiple WC programs. Most recently she served as a telephonic case manager for Genex. Marcia joined Shearwater Health in August 2015 as VP of Account Management and has recently transitioned into a new role as their WC Practice Leader. She spent most of her early career as a peri-operative nurse specializing in orthopedic surgery.
