Are New Immigration Laws Preventing International Nurse Recruitment?
It’s a common question we receive from our international nurses in the visa process.
“Are new immigration laws preventing international nurse recruitment?”
“Is any of this going to impact my visa application or visa status?”
We understand that recent political immigration discussions in the United States can be confusing or concerning, which is why we want to state the current facts.
The most important thing that you should know is that there have NOT been any immigration law changes that affect the issuance of your Employment-Based Third Category Visa (EB-3).
President Trump’s current aim is closing loopholes in federal law to create what he believes to be a safe, modern, and lawful immigration system. In order to accomplish this, he would like to fully secure our border, end chain migration, and cancel the visa lottery. None of these three things affect you or your visa application in any way.
On a grander scale than current political rhetoric, it’s important to know that nurse immigration to the United States is still critically important. Our healthcare system is suffering from a nurse shortage of almost 200,000 nurses. Disrupting the flow of international nurses coming to the United States would risk a health crisis, so your profession is simply too vital to disrupt.
Shearwater Health knows that American patients need you and the skills you offer. For that reason, we continue recruiting nurses, processing immigration paperwork, and caring for our nurses in U.S. hospitals as passionately today as we ever have.
